Thomas Verd Murdock, a 100-year-old WW2 veteran, is seen in the reflection of his boot camp graduation portrait from 1944, he was 23, on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018. Murdock’s draft was delayed a year since he was working in a mine in Heber City, Utah but “when I got there it was absolute combat.” In 1944 Murdock landed in New Guinea with the Army’s 112th Regimental Combat Team. For roughly the next nine months the regiment fought their way through the Philippines. In September 1945 the 112th anchored beside the USS Missouri during surrender ceremonies.
